One of my issues after I got the raspberry pi board was I can’t do the remote thru ssh. After done the OS installation, by default the ssh server was not running, that’s why i need this kind of pc mode like monitor and keyword, so I can do type and see the what’s going on inside the board. Now, I can full control of it, great! Ok, first thing first. I need to upgrade the kernel OS inside, so far I’m using the Raspbian “Wheezy” provide by http://raspberrypi.org/downloads. So far the OS is running smoothly, but by default it was very old kernel, like version 2.x.x. So, how to do the kernel upgrade? I go to this link https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-update, it provide the fastest and easiest way. Please find the following upgrade steps below :
- Login to the board
- Install the git core module $
sudo apt-get install git-core
- Install the rpi-update app $
sudo wget http://goo.gl/1BOfJ -O /usr/bin/rpi-update && sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/rpi-update
- Execute the script $
Quite easy and clean, after I done the upgrade, I have linux kernel version 3.6.11, cool!
Noted that i avoid the step to do like $ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade straight away from the current distro, because some of the failed was failed and it end up with the mess, don’t know why.
